Thomas Edison was the greatest inventor in history. He had more than 1000 inventions. Thomas was born on February 11, 1847, in Milan. He did not speak at all until the was almost 4 years old. When he began to speak, he always asked questions about how everything around him worked.
Thomas started school with other children his age. He didn't pay any attention to what the teacher was saying. He thought about other things. He asked his teacher so many questions. Some of the teachers in the school thought that Thomas wasn't very clever. They wanted him to attend a school for children with learning problems. At the age of 12, he left school and never went back! Tom's mother was a teacher and decided to teach him at home. There he learned about reading, writing , and math from his mother. When he read all the books at home, his parents took him to a library where he could read even more. Tom loved to learn about science, especially engineering, physics, and mathematics. When he was 14, he had a problem with his hearing but it didn't stop him from working on his inventions. Edison worked hard all his life. He worked all night in his laboratory. One of the first inventions that made him famous was the phonograph. He also invented the electric light bulb. Edison died on October 18, 1931, at the age of 84.
