Passage l:
That's hardly surprising if you know something about their background, because they met while taking an art class in college together. However, they are artistic in different ways.
Of the two, my father is probably the more innovative. He was trained as an architect and is able to look at problems in different ways. In fact, he usually has so many different ideas that it's difficult for him to find just one solution to a problem. Take the house I grew up in, which he designed. He came up with a great plan and built it that way, but after it was finished, he wasn't happy with it for long. He decided he wanted to try a new design. He kept working on that house the whole time we lived there.
My mother is a fashion designer. She's also very artistic, but in a different way. When she's designing, she thinks about what she wants for a while and then usually makes just one design. However, it's a very good design. Generally speaking, you could say that she's more practical than my father. Perhaps that's why my mother is the one who -----------------.
I like to think I'm similar to both of my parents. I have an artistic side, but I'm practical, too. I guess you could say that both of those sides are reflected in the career path I've chosen— I just started my own business designing websites.

Passage II:
I was glad when somebody told me, “You may go and collect Negro folklore.” In a way, it would not be a new experience for me. I was born into the cradle of black culture. It fit me like a shirt—I didn't observe it; I wore it. Only in college, away from my native surroundings, could I stand off to the side and look at my wrapping, and even then I needed the lens of anthropology to look through.
When asked where I wanted to work, I chose Florida. I knew that Florida drew AfricanAmericans from all southern states as well as from other parts of the country, so I thought I could find a cross-section of black culture in that one state. And since I was feeling new myself, it made sense for me to balance that newness by choosing familiar ground.
I started in the town of Eatonville, which I believed would be rich with source material that would be easily available to me. I wanted to experience my childhood memories as an adult. As long as I could remember, black men would gather in the evenings outside of stores and tell stories. Sometimes women would join them. As a child when I was sent down to the store, I'd take my time making the purchase so I could hang around longer to listen to them talk.
Folklore is not as easy to collect as you might think. The ideal sources have the fewest outside influences, but that's also where people are less open about sharing their cultural traditions with strangers. Although in other cities it might have been difficult to gather the information I wanted, I knew that in Eatonville everybody would help me.
According to the passage II, Based on the first paragraph, it is most reasonable to conclude that while in college the author ---------.
decided to become a professor of anthropology
understood her own culture in new and different ways
felt that her teachers prevented her from studying what she wanted
decided that she did not want to live permanently in Eatonville, Florida
According to the passage II, In the second paragraph, the author indicates that one reason she chose to work in Florida was that she wanted to collect folklore ---------.
from a place she had never visited
in a state far from where she grew up
where her teachers suggested she do so
from people of different geographical backgrounds
According to the passage II, As it is used in the passage, the word "material” most nearly means ----------.
information
diversity
money
energy
According to the passage II, Which of the following is NOT among the reasons the author gives for her decision to collect folklore in Eatonville?
Eatonville and its people are familiar to her.
The people of Eatonville would have many stories for her collection.
She believes that the people of Eatonville will help her in her project.
The people of Eatonville would be grateful that she published their stories.
